Earwax protects the skin of the human ear canal, assists in cleaning and lubrication and also provides some protection from bacteria, fungi, insects and water. Earwax ranges in color from light to dark brown or orange. Earwax is released constantly to prevent dirt from entering the inner parts of the ear. Earwax cleans and lubricates the inner lining of the ear. So, without earwax, your ear can be easily become dirt infested, infected, sore and dry. Earwax usually doesn’t cause problems as long as its produces in sufficient amounts.
SYMPTOMS OF EARWAX:
Symptoms of earwax include:
- Ringing in the ear

NATURAL REMEDIES FOR TREATING EARWAX:
While excessive earwax may be irritating, the good news is that there are many natural home remedies to tackle this problem. There are many simple natural remedies to unblock and remove hardened earwax from your ears. With any of these home remedies, you may need to repeat them several times depending on the extent of the wax accumulation.
These are the top 6 natural home remedies to treat earwax:
- WARM WATER: Flushing your ear with warm water will also help get rid of excess earwax. Fill a rubber- bulb syringe with slightly warm water. Tilt your head upright and pull the outer ear to straighten the ear canal. Use the syringe to put a small amount of water into the ear canal. Leave it for a minute and then drain it out by tilting your head to the opposite side. Clean away the water and earwax that has come out of the ear with a clean cloth. Be sure to use only clean and filtered water.
- BAKING SODA: It is an excellent home remedy for removing hard and excess wax. Mix baking soda with water and pour inside your ear, it will help you soften the wax. Use a dropper to put many drops of solution in the affected area. Relax for 10 minutes and then flush water gently into the ear. Clean your outer ear with a soft and clean cloth. Repeat this several times for better and effective results.
- OLIVE OIL: One of the best ways to remove the ear wax is olive oil as it softens the earwax, thus making it easier to come out from the ear. Olive oil has antibacterial properties which will protect you from ear infections. Slightly warm some olive oil. Put 2-3 drops of olive oil into the ear, affected by excessive blockage. Allow it to settle for about 10 minutes so that the earwax becomes soft. Tilt your head sideways and remove the oil and the wax with ear buds. Repeat it continuously for 3-4 days. Earwax removal through olive oil is an effective way as it softens the earwax, thereby making it easier to remove.
- BABY OIL: To soften earwax and facilitate its removal, you can also use baby oil. Fill an ear dropper with baby oil. Tilt the affected ear toward the sky and put 2-5 drops of the bay oil into the ear. Place a cotton ball at the ear opening to prevent oil from oozing out. Leave it for several minutes. Remove the cotton ball and tilt your head the opposite direction to drain out the extra oil. Clean the ear opening with a soft cloth.
- SALINE SOLUTION: Mix 1 teaspoon of salt in around half cup of warm water until it dissolves completely. Then soak a cotton ball in the saline solution and squeeze few drops of the solution into the affected ear by slightly tilting your head upwards. Maintain the same position for a few minutes so that the saline solution properly gets inside your ear and dislodges the earwax. Then tilt your head in the opposite direction so that you can drain out the solution from your ear. This is one of the best earwax removal solutions that you can use to get rid of this problem at home.
- COCONUT OIL: Coconut oil helps remove hardened ax inside the ear. It contains natural anti microbial agent, which is harmless thus reducing the risk of your ear getting infected. It is used to kill several harmful microorganisms that cause wax buildup. Fill a dropper with coconut oil, tilt your head to one side and put a few drops of coconut oil into your ear. Stay in this position for several minutes. Finally tilt your head towards the other side to let the earwax and coconut oil to drain off.
TIPS TO KEEP EARWAX BLOCKAGE AWAY:
- Use baby oil at home time to time if your body has the tendency to build up wax on your ears.
- Do always clean your ear after applying a remedy.
- Do not use hot water to wash your ears.
- Don’t use sharp objects to clean out the wax.
- Do not use hairpins, matchsticks or safety pins to get rid of the earwax.
- You must never use cotton swabs in the ears.
- Don’t use Q-tips for cleaning ears; they only push wax in further.
- Do not spray anything in the ear.
- Don’t overuse earphones and earplugs.
- Never use ear candles. They do not work.
Apart from this you can do consult a physician for some tips on how to take care of and maintain the health of your ears. Seek immediate medical help if you feel that your ears are getting stuffy by day.

It is a proven fact that pesticides are present in all the fruits and vegetables we eat. They primarily used during cultivation of crops and in some cases may remain as residues. Wash all your fruits with 2% of salt water will remove most of the contact pesticide residues that normally appear on the surface of the fruits. Almost 75% to 80% of pesticide residues are removed by cold water washing. Most of the fruits that are likely to have pesticides are mango, apple, grapes, plums, guava, peers and peaches and vegetables like tomatoes, brinjal and okra .
The following are few simple natural and cheap tricks that can help you get rid of those nasty chemicals.
DIFFERENT METHODS TO CLEAN YOUR FRUITS :
- Vinegar:Removing pesticides using vinegar is a natural, simple and cheap method. Natural vinegar wash not only removes pesticides but removes bacteria from the produce. Fill a large bowl with 4 parts water to 1 part plain white vinegar. Soak the fruits and vegetables you would like to clean in the mixture for about 20 minutes. Rinse it well with warm water.
- Make Your Own Spray:This pesticide removing natural spray is super simple and easy to make with the ingredients that are readily available in your kitchen. PROCESS: Mix 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 2 tablespoons baking soda and a cup of water until the baking soda is completely dissolved. Pour this into a clean spray bottle. Spritz the mixture onto your fruits or vegetables and let sit for 5-10 minutes. Rinse the mixture off and enjoy the pesticide free produce.
- Soda Salt:Soda salt can be used as a universal cleaning solution to remove pesticide residues. You can wash the fruits and vegetables with 5% soda salt. Studies have proven that using soda salt solution is effective than washing with tap water. Soda salt can therefore be treated as a general cleaning solution to remove mixed pesticides in fruits and veggies.
- Mix1 tablespoon lemon juice, 1 tablespoon white vinegar and a cup of warm water.Pour this into a new spray bottle. The spray produce is ready. Spray it on the fruits and let sit for 5-10 minutes and rinse thoroughly to wash away the residue.

What is the Right time for taking Thyroid medication
May 3, 2017 by admin
Most of the thyroid patients do have this query in their minds as to what is the right time to take thyroid medication. The query is if the medication has to be taken early in the morning or just before bedtime. Still further few more have asked if thyroid medication can be taken on an empty stomach or if the medication can be accompanied with coffee / breakfast.
The fact is that most of the thyroid patients are already going through a stage of high stress and low confidence what with several problems surface associated with the imbalance of hormone level.
For best results the right time to take thyroid medication is early in the morning. The thyroid medication has to be taken on an empty stomach so that it can absorb properly. Coffee and breakfast will stop the absorption from happening to its full potential. You need to wait for at least 30 minutes before you consume coffee and an hour before breakfast.
Remember you need to wait for at least 4 hours before taking calcium or iron tablets, which can interfere with thyroid hormone absorption.
Medication normally prescribed for thyroid hormone replacement are thyroxine/ thyronorm/ eltroxin/levoxyl tablets etc. The dosage will depend upon the last medical reports and diagnosis by the Endocrinologist.
What Should Thyroid Patients Do?
To ensure you take your thyroid medication religiously, place the bottle in the kitchen or in a prominent place such that you start the day by gulping the tablet with a glass of water. I place the thyroid medication bottle beside the bed such that as soon as I wake up I take the tablet and then proceed for my daily schedules.
- Avoid eating for at least 60 minutes after taking medication. Preferably avoid high-fiber foods that can interfere with thyroid medication absorption. Several studies have indicated that having coffee or expresso at the same time or shortly after taking thyroid medication can significantly lower the absorption of the thyroid medication.
- One study published in the journal Thyroid mentions, the reduction of absorption of the medication typically ranged from 23% to as much as 55%.
- Follow consistency for medical examination. Quarterly tests are recommended. Check TSH levels in your blood and consult the physician for any change in dosage of thyroid medication.
- Ideally thyroid patients should periodically test for Sugar levels too if the thyroid problem has been diagnosed for more than 5 years. There is a correlation and high chances of becoming diabetic patients especially if it runs in the family. Be cautious about your diet and check periodically.
Suggestions for Thyroid Patients
- The recommendations by researchers are clear, you need to wait at least sixty minutes after taking thyroid medication prior to drinking coffee or tea.
- And if that is not possible, then the thyroid patient may discuss with the Endocrinologist if the medication can be taken before bed time. Some studies have shown that taking thyroid medication at bedtime may improve absorption. This change in time will also allow a thyroid patient to have a morning cup of coffee without concern for interference with thyroid medication.
Recommendations by Ayurveda
- Eating goitrogenic foods such as rapeseed, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, sweet potatoes, maize, lima beans, soya and pearl millet should be limited. These foods contain natural goitrogens, which are chemicals that cause the enlargement of the thyroid gland by interfering with thyroid hormone synthesis. Cooking is known to make the goitrogens elements less effective, but it would be wise not eat these foods raw. Include foods that contain iodine, such as kelp, beetroot, radish, parsley, potatoes, fish, oatmeal and bananas.
- Another important factor in the treatment of hypothyroidism is exercise. Exercise increases tissue sensitivity to the thyroid hormone, and stimulates thyroid gland secretion. An exercise regime of between 15-20 minutes per day benefits hypothyroidism. This exercise needs to be strenuous enough to raise the heartbeat, such as walking, swimming, running and cycling, except in the case of who have joint pains and can lead to risk of ligament injury.
It’s important to note, however, that any time you are finding it difficult to regulate your thyroid function while taking any thyroid hormone replacement medication, experts recommend that you take your medication consistently, ideally in the morning, at least an hour before any food or drink besides water, and at least three or more hours apart from any supplements, juices or foods that contain iron, calcium, or fiber.

Why to move from Oral Medications to Insulin
April 25, 2017 by admin
These days we hear a lot of diabetic people moving from Oral Medications (tablets) to Insulin shots/ injections. There is a lot of frustration when the transition is in progress. The diabetics undergoes lot of pressure to digest the fact that a big change has happened. Mind as well as body of the patient needs to get accustomed to the new schedule.
Types of Diabetes
Diabetes comes in two types. Type 1 diabetes occurs when the body does not produce enough insulin on its own. To treat type 1, you must restore the proper amount of insulin—either by taking insulin (through injection or inhalation), or by receiving a transplant. Type 1 cannot be treated with oral medications.
Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body produces enough insulin, but gradually becomes insulin resistant—that is, loses the ability to process insulin. Type 2 is a progressive disease, and it usually requires a progression of treatments to keep it under control.
Recommendations for Type2 diabetics
Type 2 is usually controlled first through diet and exercise, which improve your body’s ability to process its insulin. For most type 2 diabetics, however, diet and exercise changes are not enough. The next step is oral diabetes medication. Moreover, most type 2 diabetics eventually stop producing enough insulin, and often cease insulin production altogether. As a result, many type 2 diabetics will ultimately need insulin therapy in combination with their pills.
Most of Type 2 patients start with oral medications along with diet and exercise. But after a number of years, dosage is gradually increased later, these diabetics have reached the limit of what oral medications can do for them, and need to start injecting insulin to keep their blood glucose at a safe level. Control diabetes naturally ,follow schedule of exercise and monitor diet.
For most of the Type 2 patients a combination of oral medication and insulin therapy is the most effective way to control their diabetes and delay or even prevent the onset of complications. Type 2 is a progressive disease, and it usually requires a progression of treatments to keep it under control.
Insulin-Fear factor for diabetics
Most of the diabetics fear due to the pain of injections, the temperature control required for insulin injections especially when they are traveling, privacy factors to inject considering hygiene practices.
Insulin pens are convenient, very accurate and not noticeable. With the needles that is available in market today, you cannot feel an injection of insulin into the layer of fat beneath your skin.
Family members of the diabetic patient have to be supportive and patient when the transition is in progress from oral medication to Insulin.
Even people who are very reluctant to start taking insulin quickly learn to make it part of their routine, no more disturbing than brushing their teeth. And when you see how much better you feel, you’ll wonder why you ever hesitated earlier!

The Ayurvedic name for chicken pox is Laghu Masurika. Generally speaking, the disease would take between 10 and 15 days to run its course. Ayurveda recommends fanning with neem leaves, application of neem paste, honey on the blisters. Oatmeal soak is another option for sponging the body.
Chicken pox is a contagious disease and can spread quite easily from person to person. Doctors too inform that the chicken pox virus spreads when the rashes starts falling. The most contagious time is during the initial 2 to 5 days of the illness. The chicken pox virus may spread through contact with infected droplets that are released into the air while coughing and sneezing.
As chicken pox is caused by a virus, antibiotics are not helpful. Usually treatment for chicken pox involves topical applications in order to reduce discomfort caused by the rash. Medication may also be given to reduce fever and pains.
Neem leaves play a key role in Ayurvedic treatment for chicken pox. Neem has antiviral properties and hence combats the varicella zoster virus. It quickens the drying of the fluid in the blisters, and reduces the itchy and scratchy sensation that the chicken pox blisters cause.
Massive cleaning is to be done in the home after the infected person has had bath and no further symptoms are seen in the other family members.
There is another condition called shingles which is another form of chicken pox affected by the nerves. Read more in upcoming article.

EMBARRASED BY HAIR GROWTH??NOT ANY MORE!!
Unwanted hair on the visible areas of the body like hands, feet, face and back are one of the cosmetic problems faced by many women. Unwanted facial and body hair may not be detrimental to your health, but it can damage self- confidence. Unwanted hair growth both facial and body hair can cause embarrassment and it’s a biggest problem for women. This is called HIRSUTISM or FRAZONISM which is the excessive hairiness on women in those parts of the body where terminal hair does not normally occur or is minimal- for example, a beard or chest hair.
REASON FOR GROWTH OF HAIR: Unwanted hair growth occurs due to imbalance of hormones in the body, irregular menstrual cycle, and use of medications or due to pregnancy.
NATURAL AND EFFECTIVE HOME REMEDIES:
There are so many ways to get rid of body hair- from shaving to waxing to laser hair removal. Many people are looking for a permanent hair removal method, one that will eliminate body hair once and for all. They try everything from waxing to electrolysis to laser hair removal, all in an effort to stop those pesky hairs from growing back. Is there any natural ways to prevent hair from re growing? While you may not be able to “permanently” get rid of body hair the methods suggested below will be highly effective to help you in your weekly or monthly struggle to keep your body hair under control. We can treat this naturally without lasers, no harsh hair removal creams and definitely no risk of razor burns.
TURMERIC: Turmeric has been used for ages in India for healthy clean glowing skin. Turmeric has the quality of preventing hair growth. While turmeric is used with many ingredients to remove unwanted hair, this is simple remedy where turmeric can just be used with water or milk.
Procedure: Soak turmeric powder in water or milk to make a paste which is not too tight but which can stay on your face. Leave it for 20 minutes or till it dries up. Wash it off with warm water.
SUGAR, HONEY AND LEMON MIXTURE FOR HAIR ON LEGS AND ARMS: Sugar mixed with water, lemon and honey is a very good home remedy to remove unwanted hair from your body. It acts like wax and is very effective in removing unwanted hair growth on legs and arms. This process is a bit painful.
Procedure: In a small bowl, take sugar, lemon and honey and mix them well. Heat this mixture for 3 minutes in a vessel to make it a smooth, free flowing paste. If the paste you made is found to be thick add some water and mix well. Allow this mixture to cool at room temperature. Clean the body parts where you need to apply this mixture and then apply this mixture and dust it with cornstarch or all purpose flour. Use the waxing spatula and apply a generous amount of warm sugar, lemon and honey mixture on the areas where you do not want to see unwanted hair. Apply it in the direction of the hair growth and once done cover it with a cloth or waxing strips and press to make it stick on the paste. Pull the strip in the opposite direction of your hair growth to effectively remove unwanted hair growth.
RAW PAPAYA: Papaya is packed with vitamins and minerals, as well as a specific enzyme called papain. Papain helps to break down your hair follicles, slowing down your hair re- growth rate.
Procedure: Combine all the parts of papaya and blend well to get thick glue. Apply this glue to your body part in inverse course of hair development. Leave it for 15-20 minutes or till it gets dry. Take a clean fabric and rub in the inverse course of hair development. When the greater part of the glue has been uprooted along these lines, wash off with water and pat dry. Take a couple of drops of olive oil, lotion or child oil and back rub the skin with this. Repeat this thrice a week and proceed for no less than three months.
PUMICE STONE: A temporary way of getting rid of unwanted hair is by depilating it using a pumice stone. The rubbing action causes friction that leads to the hair coming off from its root. Though not all coarse hair may fall off, you will notice lesser hair growth.
Procedure: Wet the area you want to use the pumice stone on with warm water. Now gently rub the stone in circular motion on that area till the hair comes off. Wash it off with running water. Moisturize the skin well. Do this everyday to see better results.
OIL MASSAGE: You would have never guessed that something as relaxing as an oil massage will help keep body hair at bay too. Regular rigorous massaging helps create friction on the skin, making hair softer and thinner. The more you massage your body, the more you increase your chances of closing down hair roots altogether. You can use warm massage oils, such as mustard oil or castor oil to keep skin smooth even while removing hair.
BANANA-OATMEAL: If your skin is dry, banana is one of the best ingredients that can be used for removing hair. Banana leaves your skin soft and supple. Banana with oatmeal is the best combination as oatmeal is a great natural cleanser for skin.
Procedure: Mash the banana. Add oatmeal to it. Apply this paste to face rubbing in circular motion. Do this for about 15 minutes. Wash off with water. Repeat this twice a week.
EGG MASK: When it comes to stickiness, egg white is no less than sugar-honey. Egg white too dries off and sticks to your face and when you pull it, this mask will come up with hair on your face.
Procedure: Add sugar and corn flour with white egg. Beat till you get a smooth paste. Apply this egg mask to your face and let it dry. Once dried, it will become a thin mask attached to your face. Pull this egg mask with firm hand so that the hair too comes off with it. Watch though, pulling firmly doesn’t mean hurting yourself.
